JAZZYYC YOUTH LAB BAND SELL-OUT IRONWOOD!
“At 7pm on July 4th, JazzYYC was excited to showcase our 2021 Youth Lab Band & Combo under the direction of Jay Michalak. With a packed house for the first time in many months, the Ironwood stage rumbled with the sound of a big band featuring many of the best young jazz musicians in southern Alberta. It was a full program featuring both the big band and a combo and it was most impressive to see how much music the students put together given the very challenging and changing rehearsal situation over the past 5 months. For much of the winter and again in the spring, the group had to rehearse virtually and only in the weeks leading up to the show did the group finally play together as a full ensemble. We would like to thank the JazzYYC Education Committee for their support and congratulations to all the students for a great performance. It was great to see big band jazz in the Ironwood again and such a thrill to get a standing ovation!”
