The new season for JazzYYC begins in September, and we are looking forward to bringing you another year of exciting programming. To ensure that we can continue to deliver high-quality jazz events and activities for Calgary there are some personnel changes happening for our organization.
Gerry Hebert has served on the Board of JazzYYC for the past 8-1/2 years, including a year as Vice President and most recently President since 2019. Gerry has now stepped down from the Board and will be taking on a short-term contract as interim Operations Manager for JazzYYC. Working closely with Artistic Director Kodi Hutchinson, Gerry will bring his extensive skills, organizational knowledge, and depth in the jazz scene to help with the upcoming Canadian Jazz Festival, JazzYYC Youth Lab Band events and other special programming this fall and winter.
There have been a few changes at the Board level as well. Vice President Ken Hanley recently resigned from his position, as he is moving away from Calgary to begin a new life chapter in Vancouver and California. Cathy Ascroft, Director at Large for the past 2-1/2 years, took on the role of Vice President and has now agreed to stand as President. Cathy has been active on the Fundraising and Governance Committees and will continue to do so in addition to her new responsibilities. Past President Deb Rasmussen will bring her energy and experience to the Vice President position (as well as continuing to serve as Past President).
The staff and the Board of JazzYYC are excited about having a great team in place so we can continue offering up terrific jazz for all Calgarians. Stay tuned for details about our fall programming lineup.View more news
