Message from the President: notes from the Annual General Meeting

Latest news

JazzYYC held its Annual General Meeting on March 7, 2024. Café Gravity in the Beltline once again provided the setting and we listened to some great live jazz from local musicians Niel Bonnett, Aaron Shore and Jeff Gammon.

At the meeting the members approved a slate of new Directors. I want to extend a big welcome to our newest Board members: Maham Aftab, Shelley Cameron, Darren Cooper, Michael Crowe, Glennis Houston and Artur Khachatryan. We are excited to bring on such a talented group of individuals to get involved in the leadership of JazzYYC. I also want to thank the Directors who retired from their posts this past year – Jeremy Brown, Nancy Hong and Rita Richardson. We appreciate the volunteer time and energy you shared with our organization, and hope to see you at future jazz shows.

A strong organization can achieve great things. With a new strategic plan in place we are looking to strengthen the behind-the-scenes processes that allow us to bring jazz to Calgary. This means engaging volunteers, expanding fundraising, membership and outreach programs, and enhancing governance. Building capacity in these areas will ensure that we can deliver year-round music.

Are you excited about the jazz shows coming up this spring and summer? Why not get involved? JazzYYC is looking for volunteers for a host of activities – please visit the volunteer sign-up page. And of course if you become a member, you can get member benefits like early access to tickets and member pricing. Looking forward to seeing you soon at the International Jazz Days Festival and the Summer Jazz Festival.
