Recipient of the 2021 CCIS New Canadian Artist Award, Perpie is often referred to by her listeners as a remarkable blend of melody, tone and emotion. Her professional musical journey started in her late twenties and has since seen her active role in the industry as a writing, recording and performing saxophonist, singer and curator.

She recalls random exposure to Afrobeat music of Fela Kuti by her dad and country music of ‘Don Williams’ and ‘Dolly Patton’ by her mom. Her music draws inspiration from scores of influences including western classical music, African folk and traditional musical practices, gospel, smooth jazz and soft rock. Mostly known for her rich and lyrical tone and expression on the saxophone, she finds pleasure in creating memorable musical experiences.

As a solo artist, Perpie released her debut songwriting project, ‘Meditation’, a 5-track EP in 2018. In the summers of 2016 and 2017, she toured as the official saxophonist with TerraKulture for extended productions of ‘Saro’ the Musical and ‘Wakaa’ the Musical in London. Her recent appearances include the Alberta Culture Days at the Grand, TD JazzYYC Summer Festival, ArtXpeditions by Arts Commons and the Woezo Africa Cultural Festival. To close her Newcomer Artist Residency with the Calgary Public Library, Perpie presented a sold out concert in September, 2021. She was also one of the 2021 Banff Musicians-in-Residence.
