Upcoming Anthony Fung Quartet with Dayna Stephens

Anthony Fung, an alumnus of the prestigious Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz Performance, has a rich history of studying and performing with jazz legends such as Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Chris Potter, Billy Childs, and others. He made his debut as a bandleader with the Anthony Fung Quintet’s album “Chronicles” in 2014, followed by “Flashpoint” in 2018. The latter garnered critical acclaim, receiving a 4-star review in Downbeat Magazine‘s Best Albums of 2019 & 2020 and was featured on WBGO’s New Music by Five Composers behind the Drums. In May 2022, he released “What Does it Mean to be Free?” and most recently, his album “FO(U)RTH” featured renowned saxophonist Mark Turner.

Apart from his prowess as a performer, Anthony Fung is also an accomplished composer and producer. His compositions have been featured in various projects, including the documentary “The Last Tourist” on Apple TV and Season 3 of Craig Robinson’s Hulu special “Your Attention Please.” He also created a commissioned work titled “The Chinese Immigration Suite” for the Los Angeles Jazz Society in 2020.

Joining Anthony on this tour is Dayna Stephens, an innovative saxophone virtuoso renowned for his extensive discography as a band leader and numerous collaborations with notable artists. Born in 1978 in Brooklyn, New York, Dayna Stephens is a critically acclaimed musician known for his innovative approach to jazz music. He quickly gained recognition for his exceptional talent and creativity, collaborating with jazz luminaries and releasing highly praised albums as a bandleader. His distinctive style is characterized by rich tones, complex harmonies, and fluid improvisation, reflecting a deep understanding of the jazz tradition while pushing the boundaries of the genre and establishing himself as a prominent figure in the contemporary jazz scene.
